Our Practitioners – Laura

Laura Agnew says she was “always the babysitter” of her family, so was always destined to become an Early Years Practitioner.

The 23-year-old further got the childcare bug when working on various work placements and this led to her achieving a BA (Hons) Degree in Early Childhood Studies.

She spent a year working at another nursery before joining High Bank in April 2022, where she works in our tweenie room.

Laura says: “My first impression is that this is a brilliant nursery.”

This is Laura’s first time working with younger children in a nursery but says she is enjoying the experience.

“It’s a good age as you see their personalities start to take shape and they are really on the learning path at this stage.”

Having worked on a placement with children with special educational needs (SEN) and volunteering at a mental health charity, Laura is keen to take this further in her career.

She explains: “I can myself going into childhood counselling, but which uses outdoor therapy, such as Forest School as part of this.

“With High Bank having a Forest School, this will give me even more experience, but I am just generally keen to develop myself further here at the nursery.”

Outside of work, Laura and her partner enjoy going for long walks with their dog and generally being outside as much as possible.

That makes her perfectly suited to High Bank!
