Gardening club at High Bank Day Nursery

At High Bank Day Nursery we pride ourselves on delivering a varied programme of activities that are not only fun for the children but complement the learning goals set out in the Early Years Foundation Stage.

A typical day at High Bank may include junk modelling, painting, crafting, reading, singing, building, dressing up and role play and, not forgetting, our amazing outdoor space. We also offer the following extra curriculum activities at no extra charge:

  • Signing Tots
  • French
  • Cookery Club
  • Gardening Club
  • Football

In addition to this, we also regularly take the children into the community to involve them in a wide variety of external activities. These can range from a tour of a fire station where they get an exciting hands-on demonstration, through to visiting a garden centre where they can grow their own plants. We also get parents, who lives in places such as Darlington, Richmond, Northallerton and Barnard Castle, to come into the nursery to talk about their professions, e.g. doctors, dentists and police officers.

At the end of each year, children from our pre-school room put on nativity play in a local community venue, which is always one of the highlights of the year. We also mark important events in the calendar, such as Easter and Ramadan, and structure activities around this to expand the learning experience.

In our pre-school room we have a Learning Lodge which is designed to simulate a classroom environment to prepare the children for school. This includes a computer, an interactive whiteboard, projector, reading area and quiet area. The room also has desks and tables similar to what the children will sit on when they start school.
